Aluminum Patio Cover & Carport Details
Flat and W Pan Systems
Our aluminum flat pan and w pan cover systems are strong and versatile, ready to assemble, and delivered throughout the contiguous USA! Each system is engineered according to your local code requirements so whether you choose a W pan or a Flat Pan they are both equally as strong. However, the galvalume flat pans can span the longest of all the options.
The big difference between the two pan systems is what you see when you look up! With the W pan you see a corrugated shape ceiling. With the Flat pan your see a flat ceiling.
Our patio cover and carport systems are designed with the handy homeowner in mind. The units are modular which enable many customizations and almost any size. To the left you will see a schematic that highlights some of the key elements and terminology used in describing and quoting our cover kits. Freestanding and wall attached units are available.

Flat Pans come in 2 types: 3" x 12" aluminum alloy and 3" x 8" galvalume. 3" x 12" Flat pan systems are available in .024, and .030 gauge thicknesses. 3" x 8" flat pan systems are available in 24ga. The thickness you require will be determined by the live load rating set out by your local building department.
The images to the left offer a break down of the materials that complete a flat pan cover. The standard flat pan cover will include 4 sided gutter fascia, stiffener bars and fascia corners as shown. Optional leaf guards are also available.
3" x 16" W pan systems are available in .019", .025" and .032" gauge thicknesses. The thickness you require will be determined by the live load rating set out by your local building department
To the left you can see all the roof components of a w-pan patio cover system. The standard w pan cover will include 4 sided gutter fascia, stiffener bars and fascia corners as shown. Optional leaf guards are also available.
The front fascia gutter contains a full rain gutter system, including scuppers to direct the water run off away from your unit. Downspouts can also be used instead of the provided scuppers, but these would need to be purchased locally.
To the left are the color options for the fascia gutter. We have made an effort to provide representative images of the metal colors. However, due to all the possible variants -- light source, monitor quality, etc. -- we can not guarantee that the images accurately represent the true metal colors. Please take this into consideration if you are trying to color match materials.
Leaf guards are available to prevent large debris such as leafs from entering the gutter and improve drainage. These can be supplied with the cover or purchased at a later date.
Aluminum pans and extrusions are guaranteed not to peel, blister, flake, rust, chip, split or crack for 5 years. Subject to the limitations and conditions listed in the LK Aluminum warranty program.
Our units are pre-engineered roofing systems that have been approved by qualified, state approved engineers in 45 States. Our systems are rated according to 2011 International Building Codes. Snow drifting and wind uplift have not been considered in the wall attached units. If local specifications require such engineering, these standards can be met at an additional cost. Visit our snow load information page for more details.
The following tables are samples of the maximum spans for the most standard snow load conditions rated for 110MPH or less. There are many different load conditions with engineering (winds up to 150mph) available on request.
